INFORMATION ON THE THERAPIES

Spring marks a time of renewal, rejuvenation and restoration. It is a time to awaken our body, mind and spirit and reconnect with our health, inner energy and vibrancy. Massage can play a vital role in helping us reestablish and maintain this connection.
The numerous benefits of massage are earning it a place in the lives of more and more people. In addition to helping alleviate pain and stress, benefits include reducing blood pressure, boosting the immune system, dampening harmful stress hormones and raising mood-elevating brain chemicals such as serotonin. All these factors put massage in the same category with proper diet and exercise as something that helps maintain overall health. Like exercise, massage does more for you if you engage in it regularly... even a monthly treatment can help maintain general health.
Massage and bodywork can also play a special role at this time of year. Just as we have the impulse to clean and unclutter our surroundings, it is also a time to clear stuck energies and habits that no longer serve us. Consider Reiki or Reflexology for clearing and rebalancing energy.
Another annual spring ritual is the sneezing and sniffling associated with allergy season. Lymphatic massage can help with allergies and sinus problems. I can incorporate lymphatic massage of the face and head with any other type of massage. A full lymphatic session is also an option. Lymphatic massage uses gentle, rhythmic strokes and pumping movements that enhance the flow of lymph through the system. A healthy, circulating lymph system supports the immune system and helps rid the body of wastes that can increase pain or cause fatigue. In injured areas, damaged cells and inflammatory wastes can be moved out, helping to speed recovery. If you are healthy, lymphatic massage can promote your vitality and sense of well-being.
Another approach for allergy sufferers is the use of pressure points. Perhaps you'd like to learn pressure points you can use on yourself to help with allergies or sinus headaches. Just let me know you're interested, and I'll be happy to show you some self-help techniques.
For some the energy of spring and fresh starts inspires them to learn something new. Bring a friend for a partner massage lesson and learn specific techniques to help with your individual needs.
Take advantage of this renewal and energy around you and use it to help you find optimal health. Remember, your body strives to maintain optimum health by keeping all of its systems in balance. Along with proper nutrition, exercise and rest, massage relaxes tense muscles and stimulates the body's communication lines to help it do its job - and to keep you feeling your best.

Massage Therapy Massage has been used to enhance health for thousands of years. Today, people from all walks of life are turning to massage because of its many beneficial effects for body and mind. Massage can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint mobility, reduce mental and physical fatigue, and promote faster healing of injured muscle tissue.
Massage also helps relieve the stress of everyday living. Most of us live with stress but we do not always recognize how damaging it is to our health. According to the American Institute of Stress, 43% of adults suffer adverse health effects due to stress. As much as 75-90% of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related complaints. Massage counters the body's stress response by lowering levels of hormones such as cortisol. It is a means to restore the body's balance and bring about a restful mind.

Massage Information: Swedish massage This classic, relaxing technique focuses on improving circulation through manipulation of the muscles. Swedish massage relieves muscle tension and increases flexibility and mobility.
Deep-tissue targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury.
Lymphatic massage uses gentle, rhythmic strokes and pumping movements that enhance the function of the lymphatic system thereby encouraging and supporting the body's natural defenses and ability to heal itself.
Myofascial release uses techniques that target the fascial system. Various conditions can cause the fascia to become tight, restricted, and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Gentle, sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions is used to eliminate pain and restore motion.
Orthopedic massage combines some elements of sports and medical massage; it integrates various modalities to treat soft-tissue pain and injury.
Neuromuscular therapy utilizes static pressure on specific myofascial trigger points to relieve pain. This approach to muscular pain relief will help to bring about balance between the nervous and the musculoskeletal systems.
Swe-Thai is an innovative blend of Swedish massage and traditional Thai massage. Thai massage consists of passive, yoga-style stretching and pressure on energy lines and points. When combined with the soft tissue therapy, the result is a highly effective and versatile form of bodywork that leaves one feeling both relaxed and energized. The minimum session length is sixty minutes, ninety minutes is recommended.
Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. There are three contexts in which sports massage can be useful to an athlete: pre-event, post-event, and injury treatment.
Prenatal massage is performed with consideration for the special needs of pregnant women. The therapist knows the proper way to position and support the woman's body during the massage and how to modify techniques.
Geriatric massage is massage for the mature and aging client. Relatively soft, soothing techniques are used to help improve joint mobility, reduce pain, increase circulation, and nourish the skin.
Partner massage lessons A couple, or pair of friends, will learn how to give and to receive a relaxing, therapeutic massage. The minimum session length is ninety minutes. A two-hour session is recommended.

 | Partner's Massage Partner Massage Testimonial:
*As a student/busy mom of 4, and as a law student, we often found ourselves spending a lot of time working the tension/stress out of each other's neck and shoulders. We chose to sign up for the partner massage class in order to learn the proper techniques for the best results. Elaine provided a relaxed, non-intimidating environment for us, taking plenty of time to answer all of our questions in detail.
She shared various techniques, focused on our troubled areas, and allowed each of us an hour to practice on the other. We were completely at ease with Elaine and came away with valuable knowledge that has helped alleviate the tension we both were carrying in our necks and shoulders. We both feel like it has helped us connect on a deeper level, and it's definitely one of our favorite experiences we've shared as a couple. We highly recommend Elaine and her partner massage class!
