| Carmen Bernal RYT 200 (a.k.a. Sargeant Bliss) is a native of Puerto Rico. In 2004, she moved from New Jersey to the Lehigh Valley and loved the place so much she decided to become an official Easton resident.
Carmen was first introduced to yoga at the age of eight. Her mom, siblings and herself used to attend yoga classes at the beach in PR. They attended classes for about 3 years and then family life and teenage years were far more important. In 2002, she was reintroduced to yoga via an Iyengar yoga DVD; not only was it love at first sight but it was the return to her nature and that place called home. She began practicing again and developed an indescribable love and discipline for her practice that inspired her to share with others.
She teaches yoga classes at Easton Yoga, Kula Heart Yoga and at her home studio. She used to teach yoga at Lafayette College in Easton PA and was the main yoga teacher for Lafayette Rowing team.
Carmen has been teaching yoga since 2006. She completed her 200-hour teacher training with Joan Thirion at Awareness Works, in Tafton, PA. Her training was a integration of Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Viniyoga, Kripalu and Kundalini traditions. In 2007, she completed a 40-hour Ashtanga teaching training with David Swenson; Iyengar workshops with with senior Iyengar teacher Dean Lerner; and breathing and yoga training with Max Strom. She took more Ashtanga workshops with James Brown and she recently finished Yoga Therapy training of Anusara yoga with Bruce Bowditch and bhakti yoga teaching training with Sean Johnson from the Wild Lotus Band. She has also attended workshops with Todd Norian, and John Levis. She is currently working towards her 500-hour certification and also to complete all other stages of Anusara yoga teaching certification.
Carmen's classes are energetic and very creative--having fun is her mojo. Her main focus is to help students find inner bliss, teach them what yoga can do for them and heal their bodies. Carmen's sensitivity, intuition and great sense of humor give her the ability to connect with each student, and make her teachings personal and transformative.
When not teaching or working you can find her taking long walks along the Delaware River with her terror chocolate labrador Valentine Russell and her saint German shepperd Dakota Marie or meditating with her cats king Dartagean and princess Anastacia.

| Char Brummundt is a Ron Fletcher Qualified Teacher. She has 2000+ hours of classroom and intense physical training. Char has been teaching her craft since January of 2010 and has found that teaching Pilates is one of the most rewarding and inspiring things she has ever done. Ron Fletcher Pilates is like no other Pilates method out there. Ron Fletcher is a Pilates Teacher Elder, who studied with Joe and Clara Pilates in New York City. He has brought his own style to Pilates along with his movement background and work with Martha Graham. It was the coupling of these two gifted people, that influenced and developed the Ron Fletcher Work. You will experience movement and breath that will only be found in a Ron Fletcher Pilates class.
Char also does primitive and folkart painting and had a home based shop for 10 years as she was home raising her 2 boys. She found Kula Heart Yoga at the end of summer last year and came in to take some classes to help keep her own body moving. What she found was a warm and inviting haven that re-awakened her heart which was going through a rough patch. With each class she found her way back to the person that she was and decided to keep that heart open to all the future possibilities with learning and growing with this new found love of movement in Yoga.
With her passion for Pilates, and new love of Yoga, she will be bringing you a unique class experience and will also be doing Private Reformer classes. She is happy to become part of the Kula Heart Yoga family and looks forward to meeting and working with you all.

Florence Corcoran was introduced to Yoga in 1989, but has practiced and studied in earnest since 2002. She has practiced many different styles, including Sivananda, Kripalu, Dynamic Yoga, Ashtanga, Iyengar and Anusara. Florence completed her 200 hour RYT Teacher Training through The Yoga Loft of Bethlehem in 2007 with Silver Kim and Jessie Thompson and is completing the Yoga Loft’s 500 hour Advanced Teacher Training program with Jessie Thompson and James Brown.
As so many students are, Florence was initially drawn to Yoga for its physical benefits but has continued to expand and deepen her practice for the mental and emotional benefits it provides. "Yoga creates a calm stability that carries you...it has a quiet, peaceful effect. You realize through practice that you choose what to pay attention to on and off the mat. It really makes you feel better and makes you more effective in all aspects of your life." Florence’s classes focus on sound physical alignment presented through clear and concise descriptions and demonstrations, though not at the expense of humor; Yoga is important but it doesn’t have to be so serious. She truly believes that if you teach students to move well, many other things will fall into place.
Florence is an Orthopedic Physical Therapist who specializes in spine care. The fusion of her human anatomy and yoga asana knowledge has helped her develop both her Yoga and Physical Therapy practices and gives her a unique teaching perspective on yoga asana. "Posture, strength and mobility are so critical to musculoskeletal health and our daily pain-free function and Yoga, taught and practiced correctly, is an excellent tool for gaining and maintaining all three. Few other disciplines offer this."

| Sandra Kessel moved to the United States in 1998 and embraced the challenge to leave the security of her home, family, and friends. An interesting and winding path - some might say chaotic :-) - opened for her. She had no idea she would sit here today writing her bio as a yoga teacher. From her background as Geologist/Paleontologist she changed fields to become a silversmith, deepening her education in Arts/Design to work at the Neue Galerie New York in NYC. Within that time she moved back to Germany twice. Being uprooted was harder than she thought. During her last stay in Munich, she stumbled into a beautiful yoga studio - Airyoga. It was there that she was introduced to Anusara yoga, a method upon which she still bases her own practice as well as teaching.
Once back in the United States, Sandra searched for a studio with a similar feel and came across Yogaphoria in New Hope. Almost immediately she signed up for their 200hr teacher training with Anusara senior certified teachers Sue Elkind and Naime Jezzeny. She will always be grateful to Sue and Naime to have instilled within her a deep appreciation for the beauty of Anusara. A method so precise and logical, it provides a beautiful entryway for the workings of the physical body. Yet so profound and deep, it allows one to penetrate into deeper, more subtle layers of your ‘self’.
So here she is, an eternal student at heart, enjoying and basking in the good fortune of continuing her study of yoga with wonderful teachers; Sue and Naime, Douglas Brooks, Sianna Sherman, Amy Ippoliti, Christina Sell.
Sandra thanks Jessie Thompson for giving her a first teaching opportunity and to James Brown for teaching her how to develop my home-practice.
Each time she steps on her mat she feels more clear, more solid, more real. For her students she wants to hold a safe space, so each time they practice they can explore and experiment with what yoga holds true for them.
See you on the mat - hurray!

Jeanne Smith graduated from Penn State with a BS in Nutrition and a minor in Exercise Physiology. She has been practicing yoga since 2001. Fitness and health have always been a priority in her life. In fact, she began practicing yoga solely for the physical benefits. Over the years, there has been a shift in the goal. As with many people who enjoy yoga, delving into the mind-body-spirit connection soon became the focus. The desire to share this with those in her life led her to become a yoga teacher.
It just seems natural to combine this love of yoga with her degree in nutrition. The obesity epidemic in the U.S. is very disturbing to many, but especially to dietitions. Jeanne wants to help those that are interested make healthy food choices. She is available for private consultaion with clients interested in counseling on modified diets or weight reduction, or sports nutrition.
When Jeanne is not practicing yoga, she can be found hanging out with her fun husband in Forks Township, shuttling their three beautiful kids to their various activities, playing a little tennis, or running with their Tibetan Terrior.

| Ann Marie Serfass has been in and out of yoga for the last 7 years. She began her teacher training journey without even the intention of being a "teacher".
After her mom passed away in 2007 & suddenly finding herself pregnant, she felt a shock to her soul. She & her mom were very close and the loss took a part of her heart that was hard to refill. She begain looking for Mommy & Me yoga classes & after a few months signed up for a class with her son Jonah. Ann Marie & her son had a great bonding experience practicing yoga together with Silver Kim and felt these little pieces of her experiences leading her into yoga brought back some of the warmth and joy she had lost when her mom passed away.
Ann Marie begain taking a few classes and began to feel more rested from her inner unrest. After seeing an ad for a 200 hour yoga teacher training at Kula she thought maybe I am supposed to look into this. After quietly praying about it, she felt a warm gentle feeling come over her. She signed up for the training that day. Ann Marie feels this has been an awakening experience and her heart is beginning to again be refilled.

Deb Biro found herself going to a chiropractor on a routine basis at the age of 21 after a car accident. About 10 years ago a chiropractor suggested Deb try yoga to ease her neck and back pain. Deb began her yoga practice at home using, VHS tapes (remember those!). Then in 2008, when Silver opened Kula Heart Yoga, Deb was thrilled to have a Yoga Studio here in Nazareth and became a regular at Saturday morning yoga practice. Seeing how yoga helped Deb with her back and neck pain, Deb began taking yoga workshops and developed a strong connection to yoga. In addition to the physical changes, she was seeing mental and spiritual changes too. Deb says that, Yoga created a ‘peaceful’ place where she felt safe.
Deb’s love of yoga guided her to take the teacher’s training program at the Yoga Loft in Bethlehem, where she recently completed her 200 hour certification. Deb timed completion of her training to coincide with her 50th birthday. Deb believes in life one must continue to grow and challenge oneself.
Deb is a Demand Planner at Crayola and the mother of a wonderful daughter, Rachel. Both Deb and Rachel reside in Nazareth. In addition to Yoga, you can see Deb swimming at the Nazareth “Y” or walking around Nazareth with her boyfriend Manny.

John Cosgrove recently completed his 200 hour RYT Teacher Training through The Yoga Loft of Bethlehem, a Yoga Alliance Registered School. His fascination with yoga began in 2004 after taking his first class at Easton Yoga. He says, "I walked out of that class feeling so at ease and peaceful that I just sat in my car for a while not wanting to start the engine for fear it would compromise the feeling". Since then he has practiced regularly at Easton Yoga, Olde Mill Yoga, Yoga Loft, and semi-privately with Silver Kim.
John is retired from a 31 year career teaching high school science, mostly Physics. His curiosity about the natural world and an ensuing sense of wonder energized his teaching of Physics and now flavors his yoga practice as well as his writing and his spirituality.
John's fascination with poetry began in 2002 after he attended a 6 week Dodge Poetry Foundation workshop. At the conclusion of the workshop several of the participants formed a writers group that has continued to meet regularly. He has also continued attendance at the annual Dodge workshops. "I was somewhat surprised that someone with a science background could actually write decent poetry". John hopes to share his love of writing and reading poetry with others via the new Yoga and Poetry workshop at the Kula Heart Yoga center. |
